Dr. Etan Sugarman is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip arthroscopy, sports medicine, and joint preservation. He graduated with honors from New York University, completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the top of his class, and was inducted into the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA). He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, followed by advanced training in hip preservation and reconstruction with Dr. Benjamin Domb at the American Hip Institute.
After nearly a decade on the clinical and educational faculty at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, Dr. Sugarman joined the American Hip Institute, where he now serves as Director of Joint Preservation. He has extensive experience treating hip, shoulder, and knee conditions, and is the inventor of several advanced joint preservation techniques taught to surgeons worldwide.
Dr. Sugarman has cared for numerous professional and collegiate teams, including the Los Angeles Rams, Dodgers, Kings, Ducks, Sparks, USC football, MLS soccer, as well as Olympic and elite athletes. With more than 100 publications and multiple research awards, he is committed to providing the most up-to-date, evidence-based care. An avid surfer, skier, violinist, and former competitive basketball player, he values individualized treatment that supports each patient’s or athlete’s goals and path back to peak performance.
